Joel 1:3
Tell it to your children, and let your children tell it to their children, and their children to the next generation.

RECIPE #1
NEWLY TOSSED SALAD
When I became excited about writing this series of bible devotionals so many cliché’s started coming to mind right away. One of them is a cliché that has recently come into our home.
It is very common to hear the words, “Chill Babe!” spoken by a wonderful young man in my daughter, Beth’s life. It tickles Jason (Beth’s significant “other”) and I to watch how it always seems to make her laugh after a “stressful” day and then we all laugh. Oh, the times that many of just need to step back and “Chill Babe”.
When we think of summer we think of salads that are cold, quick and something that we don’t have to heat the house up with.
In our first recipe we will do a “Newly Tossed Salad”. As we make our salad tonight we will be using green leaf and romaine that has a “Chill” on it. We will mix and “Toss” our lettuce up with some fresh ingredients that I am sure would delight anyone’s taste buds.
Before we begin, let’s remember what God’s Word tells us about “Tossing” in Hebrews. All the while we will use the word ‘lettuce’ or ‘Let Us…’ as a jump off for what God wants us to know.
HEBREWS 12:1
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses,
LET US throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And
LET US run with perseverance the race marked out for us,
In these economic times and world turmoil, it is so easy for us to get our minds off of where they should be. We have a fear of the future, a fear of losing our homes, a fear of losing our health, etc. God wants us to be careful to not let the cares of the world bog us down so much that we forget His promises and “WHO” He is.
The book of Hebrews is hard to understand, unless you first understand about the priesthood talked about in the book of Leviticus and what that role played. They practiced “The sacrificial lamb” to atone for their sins by which a priest had to represent the people and their sins. Atonement came through the shedding of the blood of the sacrifice. Hebrews focuses on the “Superiority of Christ” and how He is the “Sacrificial Lamb”. He took our place so that we might be free.
It is a blessing….a release from the chains of sin…. to know what…. II Timothy 2:8-10 says, “Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David, This is my gospel, for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained!
Father, thank You for Your Word! May we grow closer to You! Help us to “throw off” or “Toss” everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Keep our eyes on the prize which is You!
